3 British aid workers killed in Gaza named, PM demands answers from Israel
The three British aid workers who lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza have been named.
Among the casualties were John Chapman, 57, James Henderson, 33, and James Kirby, 47, who were part of a group of seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) personnel killed during Monday’s strike.
The victims also included individuals from Australia, Poland, Palestine, and a US-Canadian dual citizen. Consequently, WCK has halted its operations.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the aid worker’s deaths deeply troubled him. Israel said they were killed by an “unintended strike”.
The three British citizens were members of WCK’s security team.
According to the charity, the team was departing from the Deir al-Balah warehouse after unloading food aid when the strike occurred. The convoy consisted of three vehicles, two of which were armoured and prominently displayed the charity’s logo. All three vehicles were struck during the attack.
Following the incident, the UK summoned the Israeli ambassador, marking the first such action in 12 years. Prime Minister Sunak, in a call with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, demanded an investigation.
