This menstrual cup is ‘super freaking handy for mess free sex’

Menstrual cups have certainly become more mainstream, accepted as a viable alternative to tampons and sanitary pads, and one’s brand’s offering is aiming to take things to another level again.

When it comes to menstrual cups, business is booming.

The global menstrual cup market size accounted for around $623million (£495m) in 2018 and is expected to reach $963m (£755m) by 2026, according to stats from Allied Market Research.

But despite this, there are still many preconceived ideas about using menstrual cups – that they’re uncomfortable, unhygienic, and messy just a few myths.

While the experience isn’t for everyone, menstrual cups are arguably less of a faff than tampons, which need to be changed more frequently, or sanitary pads, which come with the worry of accidental leakage.

But when it comes to using a cup, common complaints are centred around the application process – even if it does happen less often.

The Nixit menstrual cup offers a what they claim is a brand new approach (Picture: Nixit/Getty)

The beauty of Nixit is that it doesn’t rely on suction to stay in place, compared to traditional cups that require a suctioned seal – hence, an easier application process.

The cup also claims to hold four super-plus tampons worth of flow, which is two times more than a traditional cup, so you can get on with living your life without worrying about your period.

And it’s brilliant news for those who want to have fuss-free period sex.

Rather than sitting in the vaginal canal where tampons and traditional cups sit, Nixit sits at the base of the cervix in the vaginal fornix.

This means that the canal is left free for penetration, so Nixit users are able to have mess-free period sex with toys and partners, unlike when wearing traditional cups.

And, as well as being authorised for sale by Health Canada and registered with the FDA, there’s a nod to the environment.

Using a menstrual cup eliminates the need for single-use period products, meaning it helps users reduce their period product waste by up to 99%.

Plus, call us shallow, but hello cute packaging! It’s great to see period products rolling with the times and becoming an aesthetically-pleasing addition to the bathroom cabinet alongside other beauty products.

What do the reviews say? With words like ‘brilliant’, ‘genius’ and ‘the best purchase of 2023’ being banded about, it seems shoppers are impressed.

‘I have used many different menstrual cups over the years,’ wrote one shopper. ‘My biggest issue was that many were too stiff and became uncomfortable at certain pressure points after wearing for a few hours,’ adding, ‘I no longer have discomfort in those sensitive areas.’

While another said it ‘works much better than a normal cup’ and is ‘comfortable, even during sex’.

On that note another said it was ‘super freaking handy for mess free sex’.

But shoppers did flag that the product ‘takes a minute to work out,’ with one writing: ‘Brilliant! Being used to a regular menstrual cup, I initially panicked when I inserted it and couldn’t retrieve it by my typical method, but following the Nixit instructions set me right pretty quickly.’
