Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola criticised the match officials after their decision to disallow Phil Foden’s goal in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Mohamed Salah scored with 15 minutes to go at Anfield to give Jurgen Klopp’s men a morale-boosting win against the Premier League champions.
Though the Reds’ display was spirited, they needed a stroke of fortune shortly after half-time when Foden’s goal was disallowed.
The England midfielder scored after a coming together between Alisson and Erling Haaland but the goal was ruled out when the officials deemed that the Norwegian fouled Fabinho in the build-up.
It was a peculiar decision in a game where the referee had given leeway to both sides, which made for an entertaining watch.

The decision angered Guardiola, who believes it ran against the manner in which the match was being refereed.
And, in a dig at the officials, Guardiola said ‘This is Anfield’ – in a dig at the club’s sign in the tunnel which leads to the pitch – when asked about the decision.

‘This is Anfield,’ said Guardiola.
‘The referee spoke with my assistants and said he’s not going to make fouls unless they’re clear, all game was play on play on play on… except the goal, we scored and after it’s not play on.
‘When I arrive here it says, ‘this is Anfield’. Many many years we come here, many many, many.
‘We lost because we made a mistake against an exceptional team.” But more “today it was play on play on play but when we score a goal it’s not play on. That’s true, this is reality.’
