The One Show viewers were left disappointed when they tuned in for Tuesday night’s episode.

Henry Cavill fans were expecting to see him sitting on the sofa, next to John Cena, to promote their new movie, Argylle.

Sadly, Henry, 40, was unable to make it due to illness, so he pulled out last minute.

Just last night, his interview was announced by hosts Lauren Laverne and Gethin Jones who finished Monday night’s show with: ‘Alex and Ronan will be here tomorrow, joined by Trigger Point stars Vicky McClure and Mark Stanley, plus Henry Cavill, John Cena, and Matthew Vaughn talk about their new film, Argylle.’

But when Tuesday night’s show came, it was only John and Matthew on the sofa.

Addressing the elephant in the room, the director also spilled the beans on who exactly gave Henry the lurgy.

When asked by host Ronan Keating, ‘Who is Argylle?’, he replied: ‘Argylle is a super-spy, he should be here.

‘Henry Cavill, who apologises, he couldn’t make it.’

On how he put his foot down, Matthew added: ‘I wouldn’t let him come. He was that sick and he was gonna come, so you can shoot me because he really wanted to be here.’

Matthew then revealed that it was his co-star Sam Rockwell who ‘got Henry sick’ by ‘giving him an awful cold.’

His comments were met with sympathy from the hosts and other guests, while viewers took to social media to express their sadness.

User shabba414 wrote on X: ‘Um, I was led to believe there would be Henry Cavill’.

SarahWells_ directed to The One Show’s account: ‘I thought Henry Cavill was supposed to be on this evening’.

‘What happened to Henry Cavill appearing tonight?’, asked FuriePhoenix.

The Witcher star Henry takes the lead in Argylle, a movie boasting a starry cast also consisting of Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Slated for release on February 2, a synopsis for the action thriller reads: ‘Reclusive author Elly Conway writes best-selling espionage novels about a secret agent named Argylle who’s on a mission to unravel a global spy syndicate.

‘However, when the plots of her books start to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur.’

The film is hotly anticipated, having been first announced in June 2021.

Promo for the flick comes amid a wild conspiracy theory involving Taylor Swift – stay with us, there’s a link.

Filmmaker Matthew was recently forced to publicly debunk the conspiracy theory that Taylor penned the novel from which his new star-studded spy film has been adapted.

Despite Swifties being convinced of the Grammy winner’s involvement, Matthew has assured she ‘definitely didn’t write the book’.

Speaking about the ‘conspiracy theory’, he told Rolling Stone UK: ‘I’m not a big internet guy, and it was actually my daughter who came up to me — this is the power of celebrity and the internet — and said, “You never told me Taylor wrote the book”.’

‘And I’m looking at her going, “What are you talking about Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book”.

‘And I was laughing because I was like, “It’s not true! She didn’t write the book!” But my daughter was convinced of it.’

The One Show airs weekdays at 7:00pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
