    The Guardian – Govt ‘inadequate’ Covid-19 school plans

    The Guardian leads with the government’s Covid tuition catch-up plan for pupils’ lost education during the pandemic. The paper says the plans to extend the school by half-hour each day as well as the extra 100m hours of tuition is ‘inadequate’. The front splash also reports on the zero covid deaths recorded for the first time in the UK since the pandemic began.

    The Guardian’s front page focuses on plans to extend the school day to allow pupils to catch up on time lost during COVID lockdowns.

    Unions have criticised the plans as “inadequate”, the paper reports.

    First day without virus deaths in 10 months

    The Guardian says the zero covid deaths – the first in 10 months – is raising hopes the government can continue with its roadmap out of lockdown. The paper notes scientists are warning extra restrictions may be needed to control a third wave.
