When it comes to your floors, from laminate to engineered, to solid wood or luxury vinyl, and tiles, it need only take a weekend and some know-how to totally transform your space.
While a new floor or tile project is one of the easiest ways to transform any room – and the right choice will perfectly complement your home – knowing which flooring or tiling is best is the right place to start, so these are some terms you should become acquainted with.
Flooring and tiles
Laminate flooring: This flooring is compressed fibreboard overlaid with photographic paper and a protective resin top layer. It’s perfect for living spaces and kitchens.
Solid wood flooring: Cut from a single piece of solid wood, this option brings natural character, grain and warmth to a room. Best suited to living spaces and bedrooms.
Engineered wood flooring: This option combines all the natural character and durability of solid timber with a strengthened construction for stability and versatility. It’s suitable for living spaces and kitchens.
Luxury Vinyl Flooring: This features a realistic printed decor, sandwiched between a layer of vinyl providing resistance to scratches. Best suited to living spaces, kitchens, and bathrooms.
Ceramic tiles: These are made from clay and topped with a decorative glaze that’s then hardened by heat. Suitable for light traffic areas including bathrooms.
Porcelain tiles: Porcelain options are fired at a much higher temperature than ceramic, making them denser, hard-wearing and waterproof and are suitable for high-traffic areas including living areas, kitchens and bathrooms.
Don’t forget, aside from being able to pick out the most stylish of tiles and flooring, Wickes is a one-stop shop where you can also pick up adhesive, grout, tools, spacers, trims, underlay, tools and skirting to complete the job without multiple store trips.
All of this means your gorgeous new flooring will be installed even faster.
For the seasoned renovator to the new DIY-er.
