The Crown films lead up to Princess Diana’s death near crash site in Paris for season 6 despite concern ‘line is being crossed’

The Crown has controversially been busy filming the lead up to Princess Diana’s death in Paris, France for season 6, new photos have revealed.

Although the fifth series of the Netflix drama is set for release on November 9, the cast and crew are already hard at work with the new chapter, which will portray the events running up to the late royal’s death in a car crash.

Princess Diana died in August 1997 in hospital after being injured in the fatal accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. She was 36.

Her partner, Dodi Fayed, and the driver of the Mercedes-Benz W140, Henri Paul, were pronounced dead at the scene.

In new pictures, a Mercedes-Benz can be seen heading towards a tunnel, while being chased by paparazzi on motorbikes.

A sea of cameramen are also seen on hand to capture the scenes. Metro.co.uk understands The Crown has filmed both in Paris, close to where the crash happened, and in Barcelona.

A Netflix spokesperson previously said the exact moment of the crash impact will not be shown.

The pictures have already sparked fierce backlash, with one critic declaring that the show had gone ‘too far’.

‘Filming where Diana tragically lost her life is not entertainment,’ the blasted. ‘Her children, her family, shouldn’t be subjected to this. ⁦@netflix⁩, shame on you.’

The Crown had already been subjected to monumnetal backlash, prior to the release of the images, over the decision to include scenes in Paris, with one insider saying it feels ‘very uncomfortable’.

‘Finally, some of the crew members are pushing back on the ideas being tabled,’ they told The Sun.

They added that some of the events covered in the anticipated final season are still ‘so fresh and upsetting’ that it ‘feels as though a line is being crossed’.

‘Some production staff are now starting to speak up about their feelings,’ the insider claimed.

Actress Elizabeth Debicki, who has succeeded Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, was recently asked about the concerns over the sensitivity with which Diana’s death would be portrayed.

‘Well, I don’t really know about those concerns,’ she told Entertainment Weekly, before detailing the approach of The Crown creator Peter Morgan further.

‘I’ll say that Peter and the entire crew of this job do their utmost to really handle everything with such sensitivity and truth and complexity, as do actors,’ she said.

‘The amount of research and care and conversations and dialogue that happen over, from a viewer’s perspective, something probably that you would never ever notice is just immense.’

The Crown season 5 arrives on November 9 on Netflix.
