A popular supe from hit Prime Video series The Boys looks set to return for the series four despite their apparent death at the end of season 3.

Pictures posted to Twitter appear to show filming for the eagerly-anticipated season taking place, with Black Noir, played by Nathan Mitchell, in costume.

The character is seen standing with a number of other superheroes in an unknown location, which could suggest the popular character is making a return to the show.

Black Noir was killed at the end of series 3 by Homelander after he finds out he helped to hide the identity of his father, Soldier Boy.

Fans of The Boys have been speculating what the pictures could mean, and sharing their excitement at the possible return.

‘Remember, no one knows he’s dead except certain people and he wears a mask so anyone could be him. Of course he was coming back,’ one user wrote.

Another added: ‘Could Black Noir be Invincible? Healing powers ?? remember when he got peanuts allergy? he died also there…’

A user replied, saying: ‘People are apparently forgetting him having half of his brain ripped out and yet surviving when he fought Soldier Boy in Nicaragua lmao.’

Some are speculating he could be part of a flashback scene, or that it could be a second version of Black Noir with a new hero behind the costume.

Producers previously confirmed that filming for series four had begun, with various stars from the show sharing cryptic posts on their way to set.

The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been confirmed to be joining the cast of the latest series.

It’s not known what team the Supernatural star will side with (if any), with details about his character being kept strictly under wraps, but he has been brought on board as a returning guest star, according to Deadline.

Amazon renewed the series for a fourth series just three days after series three was released on Prime Video.

A plot for the series and a release date has not yet been revealed, though it is expected to air sometime between the summer of 2023 and the spring of 2024.

The Boys is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
