It’s been an emotional week for fans of The Beatles – and it might be about to get even better as the Fab Four may be about to break several UK chart records.
The legendary pop group, formed in 1960, released what is likely to be their last ever single, Now and Then, after working on the recording for decades.
And as if that wasn’t enough, surviving members Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr might be about to secure yet another piece of UK chart history.
New sales data published by the Official Charts has revealed that Now and Then is currently on track to become the band’s 18th UK number one single.
If that were to happen, The Beatles would break a number of unbelievable records at once, and they would take perhaps another lifetime to be broken again.
The song currently sits at number 42 on the UK chart, but as it shifted the equivalent of 8,000 sales in just 10 hours, it could easily climb 41 places over the next few days.

If Now and Then gets to number one, The Beatles would hold the record for the longest gap between two UK number one singles in the history of the chart.
Their last chart-topper at time of writing, The Ballad of John and Yoko, reached the summit in June 1969, which was more than 54 years ago.
The record is currently held by Kate Bush, whose hit Running Up That Hill reached number one in 2022 after its use in Netflix series Stranger Things.

It had been 44 years since Kate’s debut single Wuthering Heights reached the top, but The Beatles could break that record by a decade when the UK’s new number one is announced on Friday.
As if that wasn’t enough, The Beatles would also hold the record for the longest span of time between an act’s first and last UK number one singles.
Sixty years ago, the band landed their first chart topper with From Me to You. The record currently stands at 47 years, held by the legendary Elvis Presley.

Elvis also currently holds the record for the highest number of unique number one singles with 18 – while The King has 21 UK number ones, three of them were re-releases of previous chart-topping songs.
The Beatles, who currently sit in second place on 17, would tie Elvis’ record if Now and Then were to knock Taylor Swift’s Is It Over Now? off the top spot.
Fans can find out whether Now and Then will make history by listening to the Official Chart Show with Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1 from 4pm on Friday.
Last week, when Now and Then was premiered on Radio 2, some fans weren’t happy with how DJ Scott Mills introduced the influential group.
Before playing the song, Scott described the Beatles as ‘the original boyband’, which drew the ire of people listening at home.
