Tems laughs off criticism of extravagant gown blocking people’s view at the Oscars

Tems has given the best response to critics complaining her dress was too much at the 95th annual Academy Awards.

The singer-songwriter, 27, was among the Hollywood A-listers descending on the Oscars over the weekend to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once absolutely sweep the board.

And while most of the conversations revolved around the much-deserved wins and devastating snubs, another stand-out moment revolved around Tems’ dress – and whether it was actually blocking people’s view of the ceremony.

Full name Temilade Openiyi, the star wore a luxurious white gown featuring a stunning mesh headpiece – which, as fans pointed out as she was shown sitting in the audience, meant a restricted view of the stage to anyone stuck sitting behind her.

Many took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the dress that left guests peering around Tems’ shoulders to get a better view, with one joking: ‘Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud.’

Now the Oscar-nominated musician appears to have responded to the haters with a tongue-in-cheek post on Twitter, showing off her spectacular gown even more.

Tems went viral when a photo of her sitting in the crowd in her over-the-top dress was shown on TV (Picture: ABC)

Taking to the site on Monday, Tems shared several saps of her posing in the luxury outfit, alongside the simple caption: ‘Oops.’

The nod to the criticism proved popular with fans, with hundreds responding to the new post and more than one saying they ‘love it.’

Another said it was a ‘lovely dress but consider your neighbours next time,’ alongside a series of laughing emojis.

Some had branded the musician ‘selfish’ while others declared her an ‘icon’ (Picture: REX / ABC)

Tems had been at the awards thanks to being nominated for a gong for the song Lift Me Up, which she co-wrote with megastar Rihanna.

Despite not winning the Oscar on the night she most certainly stole the show from the back benches.

One Twitter user at the time wrote: ‘Hate to be the brother next to Tems in the Oscar audience. Fighting for his life.’

Another joked above a photo of her sitting in the audience: ‘Interviewer: “what’s your highlight of tonight’s oscar awards”.

‘The man behind Tems: “I couldn’t see anything, Tems stole the show.”’
