Brie Larson and Jennifer Lopez were a bucket of emotions when they met for the first time at the Golden Globes, as the Oscar winner revealed how the Hustlers star inspired her career.

On Sunday night, the 81st Golden Globes took place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, with some of the top winners of the night including Oppenheimer and Succession.

Brie, 34, was nominated for her performance in Apple’s Lessons in Chemistry, losing in her category to Ali Wong to Beef, while Jennifer, 54, stunned in a Barbie-esque ball gown at the ceremony.

At one point on the red carpet, the Captain Marvel star was being interviewed when she was completely taken aback by the sight of the Jenny from the Block singer behind her.

As popstar approached, Brie revealed that Jennifer was one of the main reasons why she decided to pursue a career in acting in the first place, after watching her in the 1997 biopic Selena.

Brie explained to the Entertainment Tonight interviewer how she has to try to keep her composure at awards ceremonies, and minutes previously had almost brushed shoulders with Oprah Winfrey.

She then turned around and gasped after spotting Jennifer, saying: ‘Oh my god, I’m going to cry. I can’t deal with J-Lo.’

After fanning her face, Jennifer was escorted up the steps, as Brie continued to say that she was going to cry over meeting her idol.

‘You mean so much to me!’ Brie exclaimed, as Jennifer came over to give her a hug.

The Room actress then told her: ‘I saw Selena and it made me want to be an actor and you’ve always meant so much to me.’

Clearly moved by the confession, Jennifer responded: ‘Oh my god, don’t make me cry!’

The two talented women gripped each other’s hands, as Brie continued to shower praise on the icon’s ‘work ethic’.

They shared another embrace, as Brie fanned her teary face while beaming from ear to ear.

Both of the stars wiped away tears before the Lessons in Chemistry actress stepped away, saying: ‘I’m going to have to go do a shot of tequila or something.’

‘How sweet is that?’ Jennifer said to the interviewer.

‘It’s amazing that you – she brought up the movie Selena – that so many years later it still touches people. It’s very moving to me too.’

Fans couldn’t get over the heartfelt interaction, with one commenting on YouTube: ‘Brie Larson an Academy Award winner recognized someone who hasn’t won an acting award yet, but she won her over with her work ethic. Selena forever.’

‘Such a sweet moment. It’s wonderful to see artists being inspired and appreciating each other,’ another wrote.
