Taylor Swift has been celebrating after securing the coveted double chart domination after her album Midnights and its lead single Anti-Hero both landed at number one.

The Shake It Off hitmaker pipped the Arctic Monkeys to the top spot, with her tenth LP smashing a series of UK chart records.

The electronica-style album has become the fastest-selling album of the year so far, overtaking Harry Styles’ chart-topping Harry’s House which previously held the 2022 title, according to the Official Charts Company.

Midnights also claims the biggest first week of album sales since Adele’s 30 was released last November and takes the title of the most streamed album of the year in its opening week with 72.5 million streams across the seven days.

It is also Taylor’s highest-selling album in the UK, racking up 204,000 chart sales in seven days, more than doubling her previous personal best of 90,300 which she achieved with her album 1989, released in 2014.

The 32-year-old overtakes Madonna to set a new official chart record by achieving the fastest succession of nine UK number one albums of any female artist.

Meanwhile, Midnights’ lead single Anti-Hero has also risen to the top spot after the video sparked backlash for being ‘fatphobic.’

The scene in question sees the Red singer standing on a set of weighing scales as her inner critic, played by Taylor herself, watches next to her, with the scales reading ‘fat.’

The word appeared to be edited out from several version of the music vid, which Taylor had previously explained depicts ‘‘nightmare scenarios and intrusive thoughts’, although fans have been divided about the decision.

Some listeners labelled it the right move considering the upset it has caused, while others pointed out that it was a personal moment for the singer to highlight her own struggle with body image.

Taylor has been in the UK this week promoting Midnights, surprising Bon Iver fans at a concert in London on Wednesday night and performing their hit Exile, from her album Folkore.

The star, who is dating British actor Joe Alwyn, will also appear on Friday’s The Graham Norton Show, where she will spill the beans about an awkward screen test with Eddie Redmayne.
