There isn’t long to go until the Love Island 2023 summer series finale… with the date of the final episode apparently leaked during a live TV gaffe.

On Sunday night’s episode of Love Island: Aftersun, the sister show to the main ITV2 programme, host Maya Jama was unpacking the week’s drama in the villa with her panel.

Former Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson admitted that he loved that bombshell Ella Barnes was already ruffling feathers, having drawn Mitchel Taylor away from Casa Amor islander Abi Moores after just a couple of days.

As Sam expressed how entertaining he was finding watching Ella on his TV screen, he also appeared to let slip how much longer all of the contestants have before they’ll be making their way back to the UK.

‘Ella B’s a perfect bombshell for two and a half weeks to go,’ he said, referring the mayhem that Ella’s arrival has already caused by turning Mitchel’s head.

‘She’s exactly what I want in a viewer,’ he added.

Did we just hear you say ‘two and a half weeks to go’, Sam?

Metro.co.uk understands that the schedule for the remaining episodes of Love Island isn’t set in stone at ITV just yet.

However, we can look at the previous series of the programme to compare.

The 2023 summer series consisted of 49 episodes, and came to an end on Monday March 13 this year.

In comparison, the 2022 summer series also had 49 episodes and ended on Monday August 1 that year, while the 2021 series, which had the same number of episodes, ended on Monday August 23 that year.

Tonight’s instalment of Love Island will be the 37th episode of the series, excluding the Unseen Bits episodes that are shown on Saturday nights.

So if we are going to get 49 episodes this summer, then episode 49 should fall on Monday July 31 – which would make sense for a finale date, considering it’s a Monday and now only two weeks away.

We’ll just have to stay tuned for an official announcement!

Metro.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment.

Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
