Iran and European diplomats have begun urgent nuclear talks in Geneva, as Israel ramps up airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites.

Harriet Harman suggested that Sir Keir Starmer might permit Donald Trump to use British military bases for strikes on Iran, despite his opposition to the Iraq War legacy.

Former Israeli defence minister Benny Gantz refuted claims that the Israeli military intentionally targets hospitals, insisting such allegations are “absolutely not true.”

Benjamin Netanyahu visited Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheba following an Iranian missile attack, emphasising Israel’s resolve to counter threats.

Iran is currently experiencing a near-total internet blackout, causing widespread fear and panic among citizens, while the regime maintains control.

Wednesday’s UK newspaper front pages are dominated by the Middle East crisis, with Donald Trump’s hints that US troops could soon join Israel in the war on Iran leading the way. Many papers pick up on the US president’s call for Iran to ‘surrender’ and his comments that they won’t kill Iran’s leader, for now. 

Elsewhere, there’s some front-page coverage of the House of Commons vote on decriminalising abortion in England and Wales, the delay of the HS2 train project and, for the tabloids, continued coverage of the grooming gangs scandal. 

The Israel–Iran conflict has escalated sharply after five days of Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear, military, and energy infrastructure, reportedly killing at least 224 Iranians and wounding around 1,400.

Tuesday’s newspaper front pages report on the Middle East crisis – there have been plenty of overnight updates since the newspapers went to print, but the front page news remains relevant.

Tuesday’s newspaper front pages are dominated by the newly released audit led by Baroness Louise Casey into grooming gangs. The papers react to the details within the report especially focusing on the fact that authorities “shied away from the ethnicity” of the perpetrators over fears of raising racial tensions. 

The front pages leave space to report on the G7 summit, including the UK and US signing a trade deal and Donald Trump leaving the G7 early as the Middle East crisis escalates and commentators speculate if the US military is about to enter the crisis. 

Israeli strikes have targeted key Iranian energy infrastructure, including the pivotal South Pars gas field, amidst escalating conflict.
