Superior Southampton ease past Bournemouth 3-0 – FA Cup Quarter-Final report

This FA Cup Quarter-Finals fixture between Southampton and Bournemouth finished 3-0 thanks to a dominating display by the Premier League side.

In particular, Nathan Redmond had a fantastic game, scoring two and assisting the other as Southampton eased into the Semi-Final of the Fa Cup.

VAR denied Southampton an early goal

Southampton thought they had started their FA Cup Quarter-Final match against Bournemouth brilliantly just 10 minutes into the game.

Jan Bednarek’s long ball from inside the Southampton half found team-mate Kyle Walker-Peters’ run inside the Bournemouth box.

The Southampton wing-back squared it across the face of the goal for Che Adams, only to be intercepted and put into the Bournemouth net by Cameron Carter-Vickers.

However, after Southampton celebrations, VAR deemed Walker-Peters to be slightly offside when he received the long-range pass from Bednarek.

Southampton’s first goal of this FA Cup fixture against Bournemouth came in the 37th minute thanks to midfielder Moussa Djenepo.

The move started when Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse passed to Nathan Redmond at half-way.

The winger then drove forward with the ball, eventually ending up near the left side of the Bournemouth box.

His neat through ball into the box found Djenepo, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner past Bournemouth keeper Asmir Begovic.

Southampton’s second came in stoppage time of the first half from a superb solo goal by Redmond.

After a Southampton throw-in near half-way, the ball found Stuart Armstrong who chested it onwards to Redmond.

The Saints winger drove forward with the ball at speed, making it all the way into the Bournemouth box.

Captain Steve Cook couldn’t stop Redmond, who skipped past the defender before firing it into the top left corner from close-range.

The third and final goal of this FA Cup fixture between Bournemouth and Southampton happened in the 59th minute.

After a loose pass by Bournemouth’s Jack Stacey deep inside his own half, the ball is intercepted by Ward-Prowse.

The Southampton captain played it Redmond inside the box, who set up Armstrong for a shot just outside the box.

His shot pinged against the post, before falling right into the path of Redmond, who had no problem passing the ball into the bottom right corner.
