Reshuffle Day: Breaking – Suella Braverman SACKED as home secretary
Breaking: LONDON – Suella Braverman has been sacked as home secretary, ending days of speculation.
She had faced widespread backlash over an article she wrote criticising police suggesting they were biased in the way they dealt with far-right protesters. She described the pro-Palestinian demonstrations as ‘hate marches’.
Braverman had faced backlash from opposition parties and some Conservative MPs, who suggested she intentionally stoked tensions, using inflammatory language and attempting to cause further division.
The backlash to the article saw Downing Street confirm they had asked Braverman to make changes to the article, which she ignored.
Several prominent Tories distanced themselves from her, suggesting they would not use the sort of language she used in the article.
Saturday’s pro-Palestinian marches saw far-right protesters clashing with police as they attempted to reach the main march.
Over 100 arrests were made – mostly far-right protesters, who were, early into the day seen drinking and fighting with each other.
The far-right protesters had turned up to ‘protect’ statues and make sure the pro-Palestinain protesters stayed away from the Cenotaph.
The organisers of the pro-Palestinanin marches had already announced the marches would not start until one hour after the official two-minute silence and the route they were taking would be nowhere near the Cenotaph.
Despite this Braverman decided to still publish her article. Many say she has to shoulder a lot of the blame for Saturday’s violence.
