Succession star Crystal Finn has spoken about a terrifying encounter she had with a raft of vicious otters.

The actress, who played Lauren Pawson in season 4 episode 8 of the juggernaut HBO drama, was taken to hospital after suffering bites on her bottom and leg.

Crystal had been swimming in the Feather River near Plumas National Forest in California when she was attacked by the otters in July.

She explained: ‘I felt something on my backside and on my leg. I started looking around and yelling out and [the otters] popped up right in front of me. Then they dove down and started going at me again.

Crystal continued to the San Francisco Chronicle: ‘I could see the bites on my legs and knew I had been bitten on my butt — that one was the worst, but I couldn’t see it. The bites really hurt.’

The star, who also performed alongside Will & Grace star Debra Messing in the Broadway play Birthday Candles, received treatment for bite injuries at Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee.

Crystal explained she had been unaware otters could be dangerous and had she spotted them before her dip they ‘wouldn’t have given me pause.’

‘I would have thought, “Oh those cute river otters,”‘ she added.

Earlier this week, another American woman Jen Royce, from Bozeman in Montana, was floating down the Jefferson River with two friends earlier this month when she was attacked by otters for around five minutes.

Jen, 37, suffered multiple injuries to her face and limbs, including part of her ear being bitten off.

Attacks from otters are incredibly rare – there have only been an estimated 59 otter attacks with injuries or deaths worldwide since 1875, the MailOnline reports.

Succession, which followed the Roy siblings fighting to take over their father Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) media empire, ended earlier this year on its fourth season, which was nominated for a record-breaking 27 Emmy awards.
