Succession boss Jesse Armstrong has opened up about the possibility of spin-offs after the fourth and final season airs.
The gritty HBO drama, following the scheming Roy siblings and their battle to capture their father Logan’s (Brian Cox) empire, is returning for the fourth series on Sunday night.
All eyes will be on who manages to wrangle control of Waystar Royco after the season three cliffhanger saw Roman (Kieran Culkin), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) blindsided after an attempt to take Logan down.
Side note: Is it Cousin Greg’s time to shine?
With the end in sight, it’s understandable that talk is turning to which member of the family could get the spin-off treatment.
Chatting to Deadline, show creator Jesse urged fans not to hold their breath over specific characters getting their own shows.

When asked if any character could front their own program, he said: ‘I think it would be a fun parlor game that I would do with my pals, but I wouldn’t say it publicly, because it might get misconstrued.
‘I’d write for all of them, but I don’t think any of them are ripe for an actual TV spinoff.’
Jesse also spoke of his decision to end Succession for good after the next season airs, admitting that possible additions ‘didn’t feel right’.
‘The biggest challenge, once we decided that this was it, then you’re writing toward an end point. I knew what the end was, and therefore most of those challenges have gone,’ he added to the publication.

‘You have to try to make things feel true and satisfying, and you do start running out of road. Not every story runs at the same pace.
‘There’s some juggling to be done to make sure you feel everything is satisfying.’
Jesse announced in February that the program would be ending, leaving us all devastated.
Ahead of the new episodes, Sarah – who plays Shiv Roy – expressed her disappointment at not being informed sooner.
‘I was very upset,’ the expectant mom told Los Angeles Times upon learning that the Roys were bowing out after season four.
‘I felt a huge sense of loss, disappointment, sadness. It would’ve been nice to know at the beginning of the season, but I also understand not being told until the end because there was still a potential that maybe this wasn’t going to be the end.

‘Emotionally, all of us weren’t necessarily ready to be done with the show because we love each other so much.
‘But everything has to come to an end, and it’s smart not to let something become a parody of itself.’
Succession returns to HBO Max in the US on March 26 and will land on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK the following day.
