Strictly star’s partner suffered ‘tough’ injury that could take months to recover

Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks has revealed his dance partner Jowita Pryzstal is suffering from an injury, which could take months to recover from.

The Towie star, 36, has continued to soar through the BBC competition, having been saved by the public vote after hitting the bottom of the leaderboard last Saturday.

However, he’s now revealed difficulties behind-the-scenes after a ‘tough’ week.

Speaking on his Staying Relevant podcast with I’m A Celebrity winner Sam Thompson, Pete explained: ‘We’d had a tough week because Jowita has been working with an injury because she got whiplash on Monday.’

According to the NHS, whiplash is a neck injury that can be caused by a sudden movement of the head, such as during a traffic accident or a fall.

It usually gets better within two to three months but can cause headaches, neck pain, stiffness and difficulty moving your head.

‘She’s powered through,’ he went on, saying in the pre-recorded conversation that it would be a ‘miracle’ to make it through.

‘I’ll be over the moon because then it will be a Couple’s Choice and it’s one week to Blackpool.’

Pete managed to escape the bottom two last Saturday despite a low score after his performance as Freddie Mercury for Icons Week.

He later took to Instagram to say: ‘I don’t even know what to say…I’m very humbled and a bit overwhelmed.

‘It wasn’t a good night for me and I know just how lucky I am to still be part of the show but thank you everyone.

‘@jowitaprzystal worked so hard last week and there is no way I would have ever made it this far without her.

‘I will bounce back, this week is a gonna be a bit of an emotional one for me and your support means so much.’

Speaking to Sam, Pete echoed how emotional this week’s song choice was, saying: ‘I’ve not heard this song properly, fully all the way through since my dad’s funeral, so it’s going to be a big one.’

Fans have rushed to share their support for the Strictly favourite, with @janice.lloyd.7771 writing: ‘You can do this, well done.’

‘You’re SO good in @bbcstrictly keep smashing it!’ @kjfoster1980 wrote.

    ‘Hope you win,’ @sholarussell added.

This comes after Pete and Jowita were accused of a ‘totally illegal’ performance, with judge Craig Revel Horwood claiming they should be disqualified for the lifts during their dance to Oasis hit Don’t Look Back In Anger.

‘There were two lifts. One foot should remain on the floor at all times,’ the judge insisted.

‘Of course, a professional would be marked down for that. I think even a disqualification darling, because I think you should follow the rules.’

The couple were of course not disqualified, and Pete appears to be in a secure spot safely away from the elimination, having been dubbed a ‘national treasure’ by fans after winning them over.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday at 6.35pm.
