Ashes villain Alex Carey trolled with ‘shoes off’ chant by England fans at Headingley
Daily Star says Alex Carey was given a white-hot Yorkshire welcome during the third Ashes Test following his controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow.
The Australian wicketkeeper was at the centre of the most controversial moment of the series so far when he threw down the stumps after Bairstow had wandered out of his crease at the end of an over during the second Test at Lord’s. The Aussies went on to win by 43 runs despite more batting heroics from captain Ben Stokes.
While Bairstow was technically out, many fans believe the Aussies went against the ‘spirit of cricket’. The stumping has become a diplomatic incident between the two countries, with both prime ministers even wading into the debate.
