    European news bulletin today – Spain’s flood death toll to rise, Migrants die crossing Channel, Trump warns EU will pay

    A lot is happening across Europe today with the recent floods in Spain leading many newspapers and publications. There’s a lot of coverage of the upcoming US election and what it will mean for the EU if Donald Trump is elected as well as coverage of European politics.

    Spain’s flood death toll expected to rise 

    Spain is grappling with its worst flooding in decades, with at least 95 confirmed dead and dozens still missing after torrential rains devastated the eastern province of Valencia and beyond. Flash floods struck on Tuesday, sweeping away buildings, bridges, and forcing residents to seek safety on roofs and trees.

    Four migrants die in attempt to cross the English Channel

    Four migrants died attempting to cross the English Channel on vessels from the French coast between Tuesday night and Wednesday, French authorities reported. The latest fatalities bring the total number of deaths in such crossings to at least 60 this year.

    Partial recount confirms ruling party won Georgia election

    Georgia’s electoral commission said that a partial recount of the vote confirmed that the ruling Georgian Dream party won the country’s contested parliamentary election. Pro-Western opposition parties alleged election interference by Russia as they refused to recognise the result on Sunday.

    Volkswagen is closing three plants in Germany, and Audi is halting production in Belgium, sparking fears of a crisis in Europe’s car industry. However, some see it as part of a necessary transition.

    EU urgently needs to act on defence, says landmark report 

    The EU must signal to the US that it is prepared to pay its way on miltary and civil preparedness, former Finnish President Sauli Niinistö says in a new report presented to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday.

    Trump says EU will pay a ‘big price’ to trade in US

    Donald Trump said at a campaign event on Tuesday night that the EU will have to pay “a big price” if he wins the election.

    “I’ll tell you what, the European Union sounds so nice, so lovely, right? All the nice European little countries that get together.

    “They don’t take our cars. They don’t take our farm products. They sell millions and millions of cars in the United States. No, no, no, they are going to have to pay a big price,” he said.
