Spain and Portugal draw for fifth time in a row 1-1

Spain and Portugal draw for fifth time in a row

Spain and Portugal drew in their Nations League opener in Seville.

Spains’ Alvaro Morata scored the opening goal, followed by Portugal’s Ricardo Horta – who tucked away a Joao Cancelo cross.

It’s been almost 10 years since either side won this fixture – the last five meetings between Spain and Portugal have ended in draws.

Spain’s Jordi Alba could have won the game with a header from eight yards out -remarkably he headed it wide.

Spain’s Carlos Soler and Portugal’s Rafael Leao wasted two great opportunities and despite Portugal bringing on Cristiano Ronaldo in the second half, he was not involved in the 82nd-minute equaliser, which was Horta’s first international goal.

This is only the second time in nine games in all competitions that Spain has not won. The other was last year’s Nations League final defeat by France.

Spain and Portugal draw again in fact, it was always on the cards as the two countries have such high expectations to beat their rival neighbours.
