Sophie Turner sues Joe Jonas for children’s return to England
British actress Sophie Turner has sued her ex-husband, the US singer Joe Jonas – requesting he return their two children to England.
The pair announced earlier this month they were divorcing after more than four years of marriage and two children.
On Thursday, lawyers for Turner, 27, filed a legal petition in NYC, citing the “wrongful detention” of their children.
Turner alleges that prior to their split, the former couple had agreed to make England their ‘forever home’ and had begun the process of buying a house in the English countryside.
The legal petition also states that Jonas has incorrectly claimed in his divorce application that the children had live in Florida for the last six months before he had filed for divorce. Turner says the former couple agreed that the children were allowed to travel to the US in August but this was “temporary” as Turner was filming in England at the time.
The court filing says the pair met last week to discuss their separation during which Turner reiterated their “agreed plan” for the children to return “home to England.”
But Jonas allegedly refused to return their passports and to send the children to the UK.
In response to the allegations, a representative for Jonas told CNN that the pair’s meeting on Sunday had been “cordial” and that his impression was that they had “reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup.”
“The children were born in the US and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the US. They are American citizens,” the spokesperson said.
The children reportedly hold both British and American citizenship.
Jonas denied Turner’s claims in the court documents that she found out about the divorce through the media – saying she knew well in advance.
