A teenager who watched his British mother kill his father in bed when he was just nine years old has said he’s proud to have helped convict her.

Arjun Singh told an Indian court that he was looking on terrified when his mum Ramandeep Kaur Mann smothered his dad with a pillow before slitting his throat, after her lover Gurpreet Singh hit him on the head with a hammer.

Last month, Mann, from Derby, was found guilty of murdering her husband Sukhjit Singh during a holiday to India in 2016.

She had served him a biryani laced with sedatives earlier that day, a dish that was also given to the couple’s two sons Aaron and Arjun.

However, Arjun opted to skip the meal as he was not hungry, meaning he was awake to witness the horrific crime taking place in the bed beside him.

His dramatic testimony at Shahjahan District Court helped secure the conviction that resulted in his mother being sentenced to death.

Speaking to the Mail Online, Arjun – now aged 17 – said he has no sympathy for Mann and was keen to watch her execution, which usually consists of hanging in India.

He said: ‘I would like to be there when it happens.

‘It doesn’t fill me with fear, in fact, it would give me a lot of satisfaction and relief and I look forward to that day. I would like all my family to be there with me.

‘I would like to see with my own eyes that justice for my father has been served. She deserves to hang because she did such an evil thing she did.’

He added that he and his brother Aaron think Mann ‘stopped being a mother to us the moment she murdered our father’, and believe she is ‘evil’.

It is thought Mann and her lover wanted to get Sukhjit’s fortune, which included life insurance worth £2 million, two homes and £100,000 in a bank account, all to themselves.

Gurpreet, who worked in Dubai, was a childhood friend of the victim and started to become romantic with Mann when he reconnected with the family after losing touch for several years.

He confessed to the crime, describing in detail how it was carried out to police, and was later sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of 300,000 Rupees (£3,000) instead of death.

Mann is currently being held at Shahjahanpur District Jail, where she shares a cell with 55 other female inmates, and is appealing her sentence.

Arjun said: ‘She’s written us letters, but we don’t even read them. We just tear them up and throw them in the bin.

‘Why would we want anything to do with a woman who has taken our father away from us?’
