Sir Jim Ratcliffe targeting Copenhagen starlet who caused havoc against Manchester United

Copenhagen starlet Roony Bardghji may have earned himself a big-money move after his stellar display against Manchester United, according to reports.

The 17-year-old came off the bench in Wednesday’s thrilling 4-3 victory over the Red Devils and netted his side’s late winning goal in the 87th minute, smashing the ball into the ground and over the despairing dive of Andre Onana.

In doing so, Bardghji become the youngest player to score against United in the Champions League, and the second-youngest scorer against an English side in Europe.

He was already attracting the attention of a number of clubs but now a move to a bigger side could be accelerated.

According to The Sun, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Nice – who are currently second in Ligue 1 and unbeaten this season – are ready to make a January raid on Copenhagen.

The likes of Newcastle and Crystal Palace had been eyeing a summer swoop, while Chelsea have previously been described as ‘crazy’ about the teenager.

But Nice are hoping to gazump the competition by moving for Bardghji now, though any prospect of a deal is dependent on where Copenhagen finish in their Champions League group.

The Danish side are currently in second place but just a point separates them and Galatasaray from bottom-placed United, with Bayern Munich already qualified as group winners.

If Copenhagen finish second – or even third, which would see them drop into the Europa League – they are likely to want to retain the youngster so he can take part in the rest of their European campaign.

The Danish side are happy to cash in during the summer window and are likely to demand a fee in excess of 100million kroner (or about £7.3m) – though that fee goes up with every excellent display he delivers.

Bardghji turns 18 on November 15 at which point he can sign an improved, professional contract with Copenhagen – or potentially move to the Premier League.

The winger has seven goals in 14 appearances in the league for Copenhagen and there have even been calls for him to earn a place in the senior Swedish national team, though he did not make the latest squad.

Ratcliffe, meanwhile, is still in the process of trying to secure a 25% stake in United but, despite a breakthrough in talks last month, an announcement regarding a deal has yet to emerge.
