Sir Elton John plays final UK live gig in perfect Glastonbury set
Sir Elton John, one of Briton’s shining music stars, played his final UK live gig as part of his farewell tour at Glastonbury on Sunday.
John, 76, treated fans to his greatest hits including Bennie And The Jets, Tiny Dancer, Your Song, I’m Still Standing – for two hours.
It was his first Glastonbury gig. “I’m so happy to be here,” he told the crowd. “I won’t ever forget this.”
Elton’s set started just after 21:00 BST with Pinball Wizard – a song not played live in over a decade before throwing himself into The Bitch Is Back.
The crowd is estimated to have been over 120,000 people.
“I never thought I’d play Glastonbury – and here I am,” he said.
“It’s a very special and emotional night for me as it may be my last show in England, in Great Britain.”
“I’d better play well and I’d better entertain you because you’ve been standing there so long,” he added,
John is almost at the end of his final global tour – Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour – now officially the highest-grossing tour of all time, with box office receipts of £697m.
He now has just seven dates left, with his final ever gig in Stockholm on 8 July.
It will close out one of the most successful touring careers ever. Though John is set to retire from touring, he isn’t leaving music anytime soon.
