Sir Dave Brailsford arrived at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground this afternoon to get to work in his new role at the club.
The former British Cycling performance director has been charged with overseeing an audit of the football club following announcement of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the Red Devils.
Brailsford’s ‘marginal gains’ mantra is legendary, and helped British cycling hit new heights in the mid-2010s.
The 59-year-old has attended United’s last two matches and sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson as Nottingham Forest consigned Erik ten Hag’s side to another defeat on Saturday.
Brailsford has been a mere onlooker since the deal was announced on Christmas Eve but the Athletic say he was at Carrington today to officially start his new role.

The day was described as ‘light touch’ and was with a view to getting going properly in the New Year.
Brailsford met staff and toured United’s training ground, and was shown round by football director John Murtough and interim chief executive Patrick Stewart.
Brailsford and Ratcliffe are yet to hold talks with Ten Hag, who said he wanted to remain concentrated on the job during the busy festive period.
But those talks are expected to be held in the next week, when United’s players will be given time off before the FA Cup trip to Wigan.
