When it comes to hard-working skincare ingredients vitamin C is up there with the big boys like retinol.
This impressive antioxidant fights harmful free radicals that come into contact with your skin from external sources, like air pollution and the sun.
It also stimulates collagen production, plumping up and smoothing skin, boosts the efficacy of sunscreen, reduces inflammation, and improves the skin’s healing process. Not bad right?
Topical vitamin C is science-backed, too.
One study, for example, found that daily use of a vitamin C formulation for at least three months improved the appearance of fine and coarse wrinkles of the face and neck, as well as improved overall skin texture and appearance.
There’s a huge range of vitamin C products out there, but one that’s really caught our eye is Wild Science Lab’s Juice Boost Brightening Serum.
Along with vitamin C, this popular serum also contains fruit enzymes to exfoliate your skin and give it a lovely glow, as well as hyaluronic acid to plump it.

Other ingredients include moisturising sweet almond oil and a blend of six essential oils including grapefruit oil, orange oil, clementine, may chang plus palmarosa which aims to regulate, soothe and tone skin.
It’s been getting some rave reviews online.
One happy customer wrote on the Wild Science website: ‘I love this serum! I suffer from extremely dry skin, and this is the only product that works effectively for me. You’ll also start noticing your fine lines will fade after a couple of weeks as well.’
Another enthused: ‘The BEST!!! I’m on my second bottle right now as we speak. I have highly sensitive skin. This leaves my face so soft and glowy with no irritation which I’ve experienced with other vitamin c serums. It’s even lightened some hyperpigmentation from sun exposure.’

One claimed it hydrated their ‘dry and mottled skin’, adding: ‘Those lines have also been disappearing as well.’
Leading dermatologist Dr Sam Bunting is a big fan of vitamin C, describing it as a ‘daytime complexion warrior’.
Writing on her website, she says: ‘Vitamin C is a worthy ingredient that belongs in your skincare arsenal. If tackling premature ageing or sun damage, it’s a vital part of your routine with some impressive protective prowess.’
As it plays a defensive role against the environment, she recommends using it every morning.

It’s also mindful not to mix a vitamin C serum with AHAs and BHAs like glycolic, salicylic, and lactic acids. Being a strong active, it’s also not the best idea to use it at the same time as retinol, which will leave you irritated with the potential for peeling, stinging skin and redness. Spread the use of any actives over morning and night (or separate days).
