If you’re on the lookout for a budget-friendly alternative to professional laser hair removal to officially hard launch into summer, this at-home IPL hair remover is getting a load of reviews.
A cheaper option for those hoping to save some dosh, the Aminzer IPL hair removal device is a hit with shoppers it appears, and uses Intense Pulse Light Technology (IPL) in a similar way to a clinic, but is not quite as powerful.
This means it will take longer to see results, but considering one professional full-body session can set you back hundreds of pounds while this gem is currently available on Amazon for £93.49 (instead of £109.99), the wait might be worth it.
Unlike shaving and waxing, IPL aims to permanently stop hair from regrowing. It does this by emitting pulses of intense light onto hair growing under the skin. The light is absorbed by pigment before being converted into heat. This should then disable the follicular cells, preventing new hair from growing.
We need to note, though, that as IPL needs pigment to work, it’s not generally effective on fair hair.
Even with professional IPL treatment, it takes a few goes before the hair stops growing permanently and with many people some hair will still come back, but often softer, less frequently and in lower quantities.

Lots of reviewers say the device is easy to use, and many are impressed with the results, with one claiming they ‘won’t go back to the salon’.
They added: ‘The permanent hair removal results I have achieved with this device have exceeded my expectations. The IPL technology targets the hair follicles, gradually reducing hair growth over time. With consistent use, I have noticed a significant reduction in hair regrowth, resulting in smoother and silkier skin. This device has truly provided me with long-lasting results, saving me time and money on frequent salon visits…’
If you’re wanting to go for one of the most popular at-home IPL options, the Phillips Prestige range is pricey but according to shoppers ‘worth it’.
Luckily, it, too, is currently on sale, from £389.99 to £289.99.
‘Far better than the cheapie models,’ one reviewer wrote of this one. ‘This is a very impressive machine. Bought for other half who is most pleased. Highly recommended.’
However, several shoppers commenting on the Aminizer product said the userbase was quite limited, due to the rules around hair colour and tattoos – which is generally the rule across the board when it comes to IPL products, the pricier Phillips model included.
One of Amazon’s Vine reviewers wrote: ‘Unfortunately i haven’t been able to test this as there are so many don’ts on the list, I have tattoos, my daughter in law has blonde hairs, where im not tattooed I may have grey hairs so was unsure if any of us could test it, it looks very pretty and has some great reviews but just make sure you fit the criteria before purchasing.’
According to the brand, it’s most suited to people with light brown to white skin tones and the product is not effective on blonde, red, or grey hair (despite the model photographed using the hair remover having light skin and light hair, so by their rules they wouldn’t be suitable to use the product…).
It’s also not suitable for tattooed skin – so really be sure to read up on whether or not you’re a suitable candidate before purchasing, we say.
