Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) is keen to show her support for the anti-spiking protest in upcoming Coronation Street scenes, but the group get more than they bargained for when they are attacked by bully Mason (Luca Toolan) and his cronies.

Evelyn drags daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney) along to meet with Amy Barlow and Summer Spellman (Elle Mulvaney and Harriet Bibby) outside the café, as they prepare to march in support of anti-spiking.

Despite being so low on numbers, Amy and Summer are keen to raise their placards high as they march to the town hall, where they plan to meet Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor).

Cassie quite can’t see the point of the exercise, but Evelyn soon puts her in her place, as Summer encourages her to channel her inner Emmeline Pankhurst.

Unfortunately, it isn’t long before the crowd run into some opposition from immature schoolboy Mason and his mates.

As Mason mockingly reads out Evelyn’s placard, Cassie sarcastically congratulates him on being able to read.

The boys continue to mock the cause, and it isn’t long before they’ve riled Amy up.

‘When she’s met by somebody who’s got a complete opposite energy, who’s trying to bash her down, she just loses it because she doesn’t know how to cope with the fact that it isn’t all going to plan,’ actress Elle Mulvaney explained.

‘She’s built it up so much in her head, that this march has to go well, she has to do something, she has to help people and now somebody’s stopping her. She takes that as a personal battle against him and that’s why she lashes out.’
