Shane MacGowan’s wife has shared a heart-wrenching update on her husband’s health as he remains in hospital.

The Pogues singer, 65, has suffered a series of medical issues over the last year, including being hospitalised over Christmas with rare brain condition encephalitis.

He has been hospitalised for months though appears in good spirits, receiving special celebrity guests, and wife Victoria Mary Clarke often updating fans on his progress.

On Saturday morning, Victoria shared that she is now facing ‘terrifying fears of loss’ as she shared a photograph of her kissing the singer as he lay in a hospital bed.

She wrote: ‘Love is  the most beautiful and powerful thing that we can experience as humans but love can also feel painful especially if you are afraid of losing a person or anything else that you love.’

In a long and loving statement, she called for the need to ‘acknowledge and appreciate and accept’ every part of love, even the painful parts.

‘Sometimes when you love very deeply you will find yourself facing terrifying fears of loss that can feel so big and devastating that you don’t know how you can survive them and you can’t imagine life without this person that you love.’

The author, known for her spiritual beliefs and introspection, said she is working to ‘expand your consciousness beyond the limitations of your mind… discover more of who you really are and more of who your soul really is and more of your connection with this person who you love.’

‘You might alternate between terror and a sense of peace,’ she wrote, adding ‘fear is an unknown place and this is what makes it so frightening.’

She finished: ‘Stay tuned in to love no matter what is happening in your world and keep inviting all of your angels and guides to support you and know that love is always the best choice.’

Hundreds of fans of the doting couple shared their love and support in the comments, many offering their prayers and good health to Shane.

Shane was readmitted to hospital in June of this year and appears to have remained in hospital since, with Victoria Maary previously revealing he has been in danger of dying.

Encephalitis is a life-threatening condition that causes the brain to swell and has the potential to cause loss of movement and difficulty with speech.
