It’s hard to believe that the Netflix phenomenon that is Sex Education is coming to an end, but we don’t have long to wait before the final season is upon us.
The series has made major stars out of much of its cast, from future Doctor Who lead Ncuti Gatwa to Barbie actress Emma Mackey, and is preparing to bow out on a high.
Now fans have been treated to a first look at series four with the first full-length trailer, just over a week before the final episodes arrive on the streaming giant on September 21.
The trailer opens with loved-up Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Maeve (Mackey) exchanging texts which quickly turn visual, leading a panicked Otis to try and find a good position to take a nude photo.
After shaving everywhere and trying out different poses, he eventually gives up – too mortified to send the results to his now long-distance girlfriend.
There are plenty of changes in the fourth and final season, with the teenagers’ secondary school shut down at the end of season three and the group now starting in Cavendish Sixth Form.

Then again, some things never change, as the trailer is chockful of erotic art, encounters in nightclub toilets, and bedroom escapades – both solo and as part of a team.
At the same time, Otis’ mum Jean (Gillian Anderson) is getting to grips with being a single mum to a newborn after dealing with serious baby daddy issues in series three.
It looks like the finale is set to be filled with as many heart-wrenching moments as there are sexual, which the trailer cheekily alludes to with the words: ‘Tissues ready.’
The new trailer comes after a poster for series four cleverly caught the main characters in compromising positions, as in pure Sex Education style, each cast member is pulling a face and look like they are climaxing.

And fan theories quickly emerged over Maeve’s less-than-impressed face (Picture: Netflix)
Fans have speculated that the poster teases who Otis ends up with in the finale, as Maeve’s poster face appears less than impressed, while he and his ex Ruby (Mimi Keene) both look very satisfied.
Creator Laurie Nunn has been clear that the upcoming series will be ‘the end’ of the story for the beloved cast.
‘It’s the end as we know it,’ she told Netflix Tudum, much to the disappointment of viewers, who are hoping the show might continue in another way.
She added: ‘During that process, it just started to feel very clear that the stories were coming to an end, the characters were being left in a place that I felt really good about it.’
Sex Education returns to Netflix for its final season on September 21.
