Detectives believe this man may have information that could help their investigation

An investigation has been launched after a schoolgirl was sexually assaulted onboard in a train in Northamptonshire.

A CCTV image has been released of a man police want to speak to about the incident, which happened on Tuesday, September 12 around 4.45pm.

The schoolgirl was among a group of children who boarded a train at Wellingborough to make the short journey to Kettering.

After they sat in the middle of the train, a man started talking to one of the boys in the group.

The girl reported being assaulted after the man commented on her appearance, as the group stood up to leave the train at Kettering station.

The school children left the station via platform two.

It is believed the man could have got a train bound for Leicester.

British Transport Police (BTP) detectives believe the man in the CCTV image could have information to help their investigation.

Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference number 2300107641.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
