SAS rescue 20 stranded troops from Taliban in daring desert raid
The Metro says the SAS had to launch a daring raid in Taliban territory after 20 of its troops found themselves stranded, hundreds of miles from safety.
Elite soldiers were trapped in Kandahar, Afghanistan, with enemy fighters closing in when they were air-lifted out in the dead of night.
They had sent an SOS to bosses back in London calling for ‘immediate extraction’, the Daily Mail reported.
The speed of the Taliban’s advance through the country meant that the airfield in Kandahar was already off limits so a suitable location had to be found in a desert.
