Sainz confused why Red Bull rejected him as Verstappen’s team-mate for F1 2025

Sainz Confused by Red Bull Rejection for 2025

Carlos Sainz has expressed his bewilderment at being overlooked by Red Bull for a return as Max Verstappen’s teammate in the 2025 Formula 1 season, following his release from Ferrari. The Williams driver, who began his F1 career with Red Bull’s junior programme, felt capable of competing effectively alongside Verstappen.

    A Rivalry Turned Respect

Sainz’s initial stint with Red Bull saw him and Verstappen engage in a fierce rivalry during their early years at Toro Rosso. However, both drivers have since matured, fostering a more positive relationship. “The only thing I can say is I genuinely get on well with Max,” Sainz remarked on the High Performance podcast. He expressed confusion over Red Bull’s decision, believing their partnership could be advantageous for the team.

    A Safe Pair of Hands

Despite his past, Sainz was left puzzled as Red Bull opted for Liam Lawson, who only lasted two races before being replaced by Yuki Tsunoda. “I think everyone’s having a really tough time being Max’s team-mate,” Sainz noted. He maintained his belief that his experience of racing alongside Verstappen, where he learned to keep pace, positions him well for any challenge.

    Demonstrating Competence

Sainz’s confidence stems from years of competition against elite drivers, sacrificing for the sake of teamwork at Ferrari and elsewhere. “I’ve been teammates with Charles [Leclerc], Lando [Norris], and Nico Hulkenberg, and I know I can take it,” he stated, emphasising his readiness to tackle any challenge on the grid.

A Record to be Proud Of

In 2023, Sainz notably became the only non-Red Bull driver to secure a race win, a testament to his growth as a driver since his early years. This achievement, combined with his past performance alongside Verstappen, solidifies his stance that he is fully capable of thriving in high-pressure environments.

    Conclusion

As the championship intensifies, Carlos Sainz’s reflections on his F1 journey encapsulate the complexities of team dynamics and rivalries, making his next moves in the sport all the more compelling. Despite initial setbacks, Sainz remains determined to prove himself in the competitive world of Formula 1.
