The Observer – PM to sacrifice top official over Partygate to save himself
Leading with Partygate, the paper says PM Boris Johnson is planning to sacrifice senior civil servant Simon Case in an “effort to save his own job” when the Sue Gray report is published. It is believed both men will face criticism when the Sue Gray report is published next week for overseeing a culture in which rule-breaking could occur during lockdowns.
Sunday Mirror – Wagatha Christie trial: Coleen: It’s in the bag
The Wagatha Christie defamation trial makes the front of the Sunday Mirror with Coleen Rooney apparently telling people she believes she has won the case against her. “Coleen: It’s in the bag”, says the headline in the Sunday Mirror.
Sunday Express – Free tuition pledge for all pupils
Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi leads the front page of the Sunday Express as the paper reports on his plans to make every pupil in England eligible for one-to-one tuition to make sure help is provided to “everyone in need.”
The Sunday Telegraph – Tories in threat to torpedo unions
An apparent attack on unions by the Tories is detailed in the Sunday Telegraph. The paper reports the Conservatives are “threatening to launch a double-pronged attack against trade unions”. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has told the paper about plans to bring in laws requiring minimum numbers of rail staff to work during a strike.
It also highlights ministers’ fears that the Civil Service is “erasing” women from new laws.
The Sunday Times – NHS covered up ambulance deaths scandal
The Sunday Times claims the NHS covered up an “ambulance deaths scandal” involving alleged mistakes by paramedics in the northeast of England. The paper says managers at the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) “filtered out inconvenient facts” to stop families and coroners from learning the full circumstances of how individuals died in more than 90 cases.
The Star on Sunday – Special furces
The Star on Sunday carries the story of a Russian army attack dog found abandoned in Ukraine. The paper reports the Ukrainian army nursed the dog back to health and retrained him to work for them.

The Sun on Sunday warns that cost of living pressures are pushing up shoplifting rates in supermarkets. The paper says thieves usually take more expensive items they can sell on, such as razors or alcohol, but that stores are seeing “off the chart” levels of daily essentials going missing from their shelves.
The Mail on Sunday reports that a handful of asylum seekers have abandoned attempts to stay in the UK after the Home Office announced five weeks ago that they could be sent to Rwanda. It says “up to ten migrants” asked to be returned home rather than risk having their claims for refugee status assessed in the central African nation.
