Ryanair has issued a warning to passengers jetting off over the festive period.
The airline has revealed a few common Christmas favourites that are actually banned from hold and hand luggage – so is advising passengers to check while they are packing.
It turns out wrapped gifts might get you in trouble with airline staff and security – as it’s not clear what’s inside them.
Ryanair warned: ‘Don’t spend hours intricately wrapping gifts to carry in your hand luggage.
‘Wrapped gifts may be opened, searched and screened by airport security staff.’
But not just this, it seems ‘seemingly harmless’ party season accessories are also a big ‘no no’ when it comes to flying.
Two items in particular pose ‘a risk to the health of passengers and crew and the security/safety of the aircraft property.’

The airline has warned that Christmas crackers are on its naughty list, mainly as they come under the same category as fireworks and sparklers – which (surprise surprise) you also can not take on board.
This goes for party poppers, too.
Both of these celebratory items actually contain gunpowder, which is banned by airlines.
On the Ryanair website, it says: ‘Wait until you get to your destination to buy party poppers, sparklers, fireworks or Christmas crackers.
‘These are considered explosive or flammable substances – and can’t be carried on board as they contain explosive or highly combustible substances which pose a risk to the health of passengers and crew and the security or safety of the aircraft property.’
Luggage rules for flights:
No Christmas crackers (as they contain gunpowder)
No party poppers
No fireworks or sparklers
Priority fares allow customers to take a small personal bag (40 x 20 x 25cm) and a 10kg bag (55 x 40 x 20cm) with them onboard
