Russia’s key challenges in Ukraine war will remain even after Putin calls up 300,000 reservists, say experts

The i says Calling up 300,000 reservists to fight in Ukraine is unlikely to put Vladimir Putin on the road to victory, experts have suggested.

Having more troops will eventually allow soldiers a period of rest after months of fighting, but it will not solve fundamental issues the Russian army continues to face.

The Russian President’s partial mobilisation of 300,000 reservists with previous military experience and specialist skills – which he said would “protect our motherland, its sovereignty and territorial integrity” – comes as Moscow attempts to regain ground following its invasion of Ukraine.
