Rebekah Vardy has made claims about her family’s reaction to alleged sexual abuse in new Channel 4 documentary.
In Rebekah Vardy: Jehovah’s Witnesses and Me, the 41-year-old goes on a personal journey examining her former religion and speaking with ex-members.
During the episode, viewers will see Rebekah become emotional recounting a particularly difficult ordeal from her childhood.
Rebekah claims that she was sexually abused from the age of 12. She has previously spoken about being a victim of the crime but has never gone into detail about her family and religious community’s reaction.
She tried to get help from members of her family and the Jehovah’s Witness community which led to an eventual meeting.

‘It was put to me that I’d misinterpreted the abuse as a form of affection,’ she recalled.
‘It was explained that I could bring shame on my family and was manipulated into believing it wasn’t the best thing to do to take it any further and to take it to the police.’
Rebekah adds that it had a huge impact on her, and she began missing school and making terrible decisions. She alleges this led to the breakdown of relations between herself and her family, resulting in her leaving the family home.
‘It’s hard to see how I survived that,’ she shared.
‘It’s not until you have children that you really become furiously protective and yet nobody valued me enough to protect me.
