Raphael Varane is expected to miss all of Manchester United’s matches before the World Cup due to his hamstring injury, according to reports.

The France international was forced off in the second half of United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

Varane looked visibly upset as left the pitch as his hopes of appearing at a third World Cup with France are now in doubt.

According to L’Equipe, Varane’s hamstring injury is not as serious as first feared following an MRI scan on Sunday but the 29-year-old is now set to be sidelined for around three weeks.

That means Varane is likely to be absent for United’s final six matches before the World Cup in Qatar begins next month.

However, his chances of making France’s squad for the World Cup are not over and the United defender is hopeful that he will still be included in Didier Deschamps’ final squad list on November 9.

France are in Group D alongside Australia, Denmark and Tunisia. Their opening group fixture against Australia is on November 22.

‘I can understand, we can all probably understand he would be emotional but I think he also has to wait,’ Ten Hag said after United’s draw with Chelsea.
