Dominic Raab blames military’s ‘wrong’ intelligence for slow Afghanistan response
The i says a Whitehall blame game over Afghanistan spilled into the open as Dominic Raab appeared to hold “military” intelligence responsible for the UK’s slow response to the crisis.
The Foreign Secretary rejected claims that his department was slow to react to the Taliban takeover in summer and that he had “shown no interest” in talking to ministers in Afghanistan or Pakistan for months ahead of the evacuation chaos.
Mr Raab also hit back at criticism levelled in July by ex-forces chiefs, who had said efforts to relocate Afghan interpreters and other allies were progressing too slowly as Taliban extremists gained ground.
