Metro – Putin’s pawns stoking riots

    August 8, 2024

Supporters of Vladimir Putin have “infiltrated” online chat groups being used to organise the far-right protests across the UK, Metro says. Also catching the eye is an image of British actress and Star Wars icon Daisy Ridley who has spoken for the first time about being diagnosed with Graves’ disease – an autoimmune condition that mainly affects young and middle-aged women.

‘Foreign-backed actors’ using social media to share anti-immigration narratives in UK

Foreign-backed actors appear to be using bot accounts to share anti-immigration narratives during the UK riots.

Conversations between Russian trolls on Telegram appeared to speak about how they had infiltrated British far-right channels on the platform to organise anti-Muslim demonstrations across the UK.

Other Russian language channels spoke about ‘deliberately’ stirring far-right channels to anger members, according to Bloomberg.

A Russian Telegram channel called ‘Old England’ sent a screenshot from a far-right UK Telegram channel, appearing to show messages reading ‘from Russia with love’ and ‘we support you’.

Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley, 32, reveals concerning symptoms before chronic disease diagnosis

Daisy Ridley has revealed she’s been diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disease.

The 32-year-old Rey Skywalker actress first discovered she had Graves’ disease in September 2023 when she went to her doctor after bouts of hot flashes and fatigue following filming of the psychological thriller Magpie.

The condition occurs in four out of five people with an overactive thyroid gland, where their immune system produces antibodies that cause the production of too much thyroid hormone.

Symptoms can include difficulty sleeping, fatigue and weakness, change in vision or pain in the eye, and heart palpitations.

‘Tens of thousands of anti-racism protesters protect UK’ - Paper Talk

    Editorial 08 August 2024.

Almost all of Thursday’s front pages report on the anti-racism protestors taking to England’s streets yesterday – in peaceful demonstrations. There is also coverage of the first far-right thugs that have been sentenced for their roles in the rioting and disorder we have seen over the past week – following the stabbing deaths of three young girls and misinformation about the attacker spreading rapidly online.

Many front pages feature images of Matt Hudson-Smith – who narrowly missed out on Gold at the Olympics. His Olympics 2024 silver dominates the back pages and the UK sports pages.
