Sunday Express – Public at risk over prison release plan
The Sunday Express is leading on the early release of prisoners and reports that probation officers have not had enough time to prepare. The newspaper suggests the public will be put at risk.
‘Public at risk’ from Labour plan to let thousands of prisoners out of jail early
Labour has been accused of rushing ahead with the early release of prisoners before measures to protect the public are put in place.
Furious probation officers claimed they have been given barely four weeks to prepare for the first batch of convicts to be freed next month. They warned the lack of adequate preparation will put the public at risk and could lead to “horrific” consequences.
Last night a former home office minister branded the hasty scheme “deeply irresponsible” and “dangerous”. Up to 5,500 inmates – including violent offenders – will be released early to ease prison overcrowding.
BBC staff given ‘stern warning’ about Jermaine Jenas after inappropriate text probe
BBC staff have been instructed to avoid any contact with Jermaine Jenas following his dismissal due to allegations of unsolicited inappropriate texts involving a female employee from The One Show. The 41 year old former presenter of The One Show and Match of the Day had his BBC contract cut short earlier this week.
After receiving a complaint last month about text messages sent by Jenas, the corporation initiated an investigation. The news has reportedly stunned BBC employees.
At 3.39pm on Thursday, Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski sent out an email to staff stating: “I wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC.”
