PSG’s coach jokes about clubs’ private jet usage, sparking backlash

Kylian Mbappe and his manager at Paris Saint Germain, Christophe Galtier have sparked a debate in France over their response to a question about using private jets to travel to football games.

Galtier was asked about the club’s choice to travel to Nates (two hours from Paris on a high-speed train) via private jet instead of the train over the weekend.

“This morning, we discussed with the company with which we sort our travel to know if we could not travel by sand yacht,” Galtier responded at a press conference on Monday.

The journalist who asked the question was following up on a tweet from an executive of the state-owned SNCF railway company.

Alain Krakovitch retweeted a video of PSG players flying to Nantes and said he was renewing SNCF’s offer to help the club travel by train.

France’s sports minister fired back in a tweet saying she was used to more responsible answers from Galtier. Whilst Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo joined the criticism of Galtier, urging the football team officials to “wake up.”

Football legend Lionel Messi who plans for PSG has also been criticised for his private jet use, making 52 flights from June to August.
