Priti Patel’s plan to jail Channel asylum seekers ‘will cost taxpayers £412m a year’
The Times says Priti Patel’s proposal to penalise all asylum seekers trying to cross the Channel in small boats would cost taxpayers up to £412 million a year, new research has found.
The Refugee Council has calculated the costs based on thousands of refugees who will face prosecution under an offence being created by the Nationality and Borders Bill, which will be put to the vote in the Commons tonight.
