A pregnant model who was shot while sitting in a car gave birth before succumbing to her wounds.
Samya Gill, 22, and a man were in a parked car on the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue, Southeast, in Washington, DC, when two gunmen pulled up, got out and opened fire on both of them, police said.
First responders who got to the scene of the shooting, which happened just before 11.30am on Thursday, transported the victims to nearby hospitals.
‘Once at the hospital, the female victim gave birth,’ stated the Metropolitan Police Department on Thursday, adding that the infant was in critical condition.

‘After all life-saving efforts failed, the adult female succumbed to her injuries.’
Police identified the pregnant woman as being from Fort Washington, Maryland.
The man who was shot was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Gill’s death has been ‘really devastating for the family’, said her mother.
‘At the time of my daughter’s death she was also pregnant and due within a few weeks however, the (trauma) unit had to do an emergency C-section to save my granddaughters life, and unfortunately she’s not in the best condition herself (BUT GOD)!’ wrote Gill’s mother on a GoFundMe page.

The baby’s name is Zailey, the page states.
‘She’s beautiful I went to go see her last night and she’s just gorgeous,’ Gill’s mother, who did not want to be identified, told WJLA on Friday.
The baby was not hit by a bullet. The now-grandmother said she will raise Zailey if she survives.

Gill’s mother said she worked as a model and ran an online clothing boutique but had recently stopped doing it to focus on her baby.
‘I just really hope they catch whoever did that to my daughter,’ Gill’s mother said.
Assistant Chief of Patrol Andre Wright called the shooting in the middle of the day ‘a brazen act’.

The suspects who fled the scene have been pictured as a male wearing a white sweatshirt and white hat and a male with dark clothing. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to arrests and convictions.
Gill’s killing was one of four homicides last week in DC, The Washington Post reported.
The GoFundMe page for Gill’s funeral and to support Zailey had garnered more than $13,000 as of Monday afternoon.
