Snowdon: Police find body in search for missing mountain walker | UK News

    .

Police in Wales have found a body in the search for a man last seen walking on a mountain.

North Wales Police said the last sighting of the man, identified only as John, was on Yr Wyddfa (also known as Snowdon) at 5.40pm on Monday.

In an update on Tuesday afternoon, the force said a man’s body had been discovered on the mountain shortly before 10am on Tuesday.

Police confirmed the man had now been formally identified as “John from the West Sussex area”.

Officers said there were thought to be no suspicious circumstances involved in his death and that the coroner has been informed.

The force thanked its partner agencies as well as volunteers and members of the public who helped with the search.

The 20-year-old, who was described as around 6ft tall, was last seen on the Llanberis path, near to the railway line, officers said.

According to Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, the Llanberis path is nine mile (14.5km) long and typically takes between six to eight hours to complete a round trip to and back from the summit of Wales’s highest mountain.

The park authority describes the path as a “hard and strenuous route” with a “good level of fitness” required.
