Pole vault’s ‘nearly woman’ Holly Bradshaw wins Olympic medal at last
The Times says Holly Bradshaw won Britain’s first Olympic pole vault medal with a bronze in Tokyo, but if the Games handed out medals for persistence the 29-year-old might have won gold.
Bradshaw has overcome bodyshaming, being dropped by her sponsor, injuries and being labelled the “nearly woman” of Team GB to finish on the podium. Her bronze medal came after fifth and sixth-placed finishes at the last two Olympics and seventh, sixth and fourth-place finishes at the previous three world championships.
