The Independent – Flight or Fantasy? PM insists Rwanda planes will take off in weeks
The Independent asks “Flight or Fantasy?” – the paper carries a warning from MPs that flights to Rwanda will remain grounded, despite the bill, because of legal challenges. Sunak has said that the first flight would take off in 10-12 weeks and regular trips will take place over the Summer “until the boats are stopped.”
The paper says charities and unions will now see whether they can bring any legal challenges to the bill itself. One union, the FDA, is considering a challenge over whether civil servants would have to ignore their professional code to follow minister’s instructions to ignore directions from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
Elsewhere, the front page features a large image of Huw Edwards who quit the BBC following last summer’s scandal. It adds that he won’t receive a payoff. He had been off air since July amid allegations he paid a teenager for sexually explicit images.
