If you’ve been out and about in a car in the past few days, you’ve probably had to clear your windscreen of frost and ice.

And, with more chilly temperatures set to come this week, drivers will need to make more time for defrosting in their morning routines.

However, experts have urged drivers not to use a common trick to speed the process along.

It turns out boiling a kettle and then pouring hot water on your windscreen could actually do more harm than good – as the glass could crack as a result of the temperature change.

But is there a way to speed up the pesky de-icing process?

If you don’t fancy spending money on de-icing formula, a woman on social media has shared a way to defrost a car faster.

A social media user named Sara Deutsch recently shared some brilliant advice for chilly mornings.

It seems simply changing the position of your sun visors can make a real difference when it comes to heating your car.

In a video posted to TikTok, Sara explained how motorists should pull their visors into a downward position when defrosting their windscreen – and this makes a real difference.

To start, they should blast hot air onto the window as they usually would – but make sure their visors are down, as if the low sun was shining through.

They will find that the defrosting process becomes quicker, as a result.

She explains: ‘If you have a windshield that is frosted over – make sure to put your visors down, so it stops the airflow and it creates a faster defrost on your windshield. If you ever have a sheet of ice on your car or when it’s frosted – put the [sun visor] down.

‘Otherwise, you can feel the air come straight up over it.

‘If you put the [sun visor] down, it creates a block, so that it actually defrosts faster.’
